Many people have a desire to get rid of hairy patches on the body. There are numerous ways to go about this. First you have the traditional methods such as tweezing, shaving, waxing, and depilatory cream. Unfortunately these treatments need to be repeated continually. And then, you have the newer method: laser hair removal, which is becoming a more popular option among many people. The results of this can be long-term.
On smaller areas, many people will choose to use tweezers to pluck the hairs out. This method does the trick, but will leave this spot red, swollen, and painful. It will also have to be redone every 2 to 3 weeks depending on the individual. Shaving, with either a straight metal blade or an electronic razor, is a way to get rid of larger areas of unwanted fuzz. This must be repeated every day to keep the surface smooth. Depilatory cream is yet another option, as is waxing. Both of these must be redone often and can cause unwanted burning and irritation.
Laser hair removal uses beams of pulsating light to damage the follicle. This makes it harder for growth to recur. The procedure must be done in numerous sessions over a period of time in order to achieve adequate follicle damage. The light only affects the follicles which are in the active growth stage. Those that are not actively growing hairs will be treated during a separate session. This is why it can take up to six months (or sometimes longer) in order to achieve complete eradication. After the procedures are complete, the person will no longer have to shave, tweeze, wax, or use other methods of elimination.
Laser hair removal can be done on both men and women. Men often choose to have areas such as the chest, back, shoulders, and even eyebrows done. Women are likely to have underarms, eyebrows, the bikini area, and the upper lip done. The treatment is effective in both genders, though it does seem to work better on those that have a lighter skin tone.
People have long been tired of having to get up every morning to shave, or take a day every two weeks to wax, only to put up with pain, bumps, and infected follicles. Not only that, but then they must repeat the process over and over again. With laser hair removal, once the sessions are done the person will longer have to worry about treatment in these areas.
