Does Acne Only Happen When You Are a Teenager?

When you think of someone living with acne, you most likely picture a teenager that probably does not take care of their skin or eats a lot of greasy foods. This is the common stereotype that acne receives and there are just as many adults suffering from acne as there are teenagers.

Millions of teens certainly do suffer from acne of all types, but in most cases it is a temporary setback and part of going through puberty. All of those joyous hormones racing through their bodies can cause the skin to develop acne. Most people that have suffered from acne for most of their lives would gladly trade with any teenager that will only have a temporary case of it lasting for one year of school or just over the summer.

While that can be frustrating for the teenager to have to endure it even for one month, it certainly is much better than having it well into adulthood. Some people begin to develop their acne while they are teenagers and it continues to be a part of their life well into their forties or longer. This can be caused by many things such as genetics, poor diet and just plain bad luck. Some develop acne for absolutely no reason at all and others can have it come and go as adults just over stress.

Imagine that, stress gives you acne and then when you have acne you are automatically stressed trying to get rid of it, which can cause it to stick around even longer! While some feel acne can be caused by eating greasy foods and chocolate that actually is not true. Certainly as the age old saying is valid that you are what you eat, for those that have acne it can make it worse, but generally you cannot develop acne from eating certain foods.

Drinking plenty of water and having fresh fruits and vegetables will definitely make an improvement on your skin, but to blame a severe case of acne on some French fries is not very realistic. As long as you are drinking enough water each day, your skin will not reflect what greasy foods you may consume here or there.

Water keeps the skin hydrated and youthful, and also wards off blemishes. The best thing to do is have your acne treated as soon as possible. If you are an adult that has recently developed your acne, then chances are it can be repaired rather quickly. If you have lived with your acne for decades, it may be time to finally get back your clear skin and live with a bit more confidence knowing you have finally taken the initiative to combat your acne once and for all.

Speak with a local dermatologist first, most consultations are free and they will provide you with a more accurate picture as to why you are suffering from acne. From there they will give you a few options for treatment and perhaps even get you started on a system to cleanse and begin the process from home. Your skin is worth your time to invest in and get back to enjoying your life with beautiful skin!
