What is lightning?
Lightning is an atmospheric discharge of electricity accompanied by thunder, which typically occurs during thunderstorms, and sometimes during volcanic eruptions or dust storms. In the atmospheric electrical discharge, a leader of a bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of 60,000 m/s (130,000 mph), and can reach temperatures approaching 30,000 °C (54,000 °F), hot enough to fuse silica sand into glass channels known as fulgurites which are normally hollow and can extend some distance into the ground.

What is safety? 
Safety is the state of being "safe", the condition of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or consequences of failure, damage, error, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable. This can take the form of being protected from the event or from exposure to something that causes health or economical losses. It can include protection of people or of possessions.

What is crane?
A crane is a lifting machine, generally equipped with a winder (also called a wire rope drum), wire ropes or chains and sheaves that can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them horizontally. It uses one or more simple machines to create mechanical advantage and thus move loads beyond the normal capability of a human. Cranes are commonly employed in the transport industry for the loading and unloading of freight, in the construction industry for the movement of materials and in the manufacturing industry for the assembling of heavy equipment.

The Lightning safety.
The examples of the lightning safety are;
1.    Postpone the crane operation activity promptly. Do not wait for the rain. Many people take shelter from the rain, but most people struck by lightning are not in the rain. Stop quickly the operation progress and completely switch the crane off.
2.    Be the lowest point. Lightning usually strikes the tallest object. Therefore, by lowering the latticed boom, could avoid the lightning strike.
3.    Avoid metal. Drop metal materials hanged by the crane hook because one of the factor getting lightning strike is having metal near the objects.
4.    Keep away from tree. Keep the crane twice as far away from a tree as it is tall. This distance is far enough to avoid the crane from getting strucked.
5.    Estimating the distance from a thunderstorm because light travels much faster than sound, lightning flashes can be seen long before the resulting thunder is heard.
6.    Cranes and other tall lifting appliances used for building construction purposes, shipyards and port installations should also be bonded to earth. For cranes or revolving structures mounted on rails, efficient earthling of the rails, preferably at more than one point.
7.    Mobile cranes and similar structures mounted on vehicles with pneumatic tyres can be given a limited degree of protection against lightning damage by drag chains or tyres of conducting rubber such as are provided for dissipating static electricity.

4. To enable the construction progresses safely handled and follow the original plan. By providing this lightning safety, we can save life, machine and avoid any of injury that slow down the construction process.
