Structural steel is widely used construction material for residential, commercial and industrial construction , Structural steel offers numerous benefits compared to conventional wood, timber or concrete made structures. It offers advantages like highest strength, fire resistance, speedy design and installation and less cost.
Structural steel is globally accepted and durable form of construction that can meet your specific building lifespan requirements. Steel columns are lean which results in larger floor area. Building foundation costs with structural steel is lower due to its excellent strength to weight ratio. The structural members can be fabricated offsite resulting in easy onsite implementations. Steel members can also be prefabricated as per design requirements to offer greater flexibility and easy accommodations of changes.
Steel's superb strength to weight quotient allows apparently economic use of floor area and space. Last few years have witnessed dramatic change in Computer based design (CAD) process and tools resulting in increased efficiency in steel design, fabrication and installation. There has been continuous improvement in CAD technology offering automatic updates of shop drawings when any of the design parameter is modified.
With steel construction, additional structural members can easily be accommodated and erection schedule can be modified on the fly. During the shop fabrication you can suggest many alterations as per requirements and those changes can readily be achieved with 3D modeling tools. It is also possible to release and remake steel connections at rapid pace with ease.
If you want to extend or alter the use of the structure (for example, accommodate more loads) then the structural members can easily be strengthened or extra beams or columns can be incorporated. Each steel frame can be designed, detailed using 3D models and linked to the CNC shop thus ensuring high dimensional accuracy and error-free connections.
Steel construction allows offsite fabrication of components. Other trades like mechanical or electrical can simultaneously carry out their work resulting in less delay at construction site. Special thanks to James D Lee for sharing this.
