It took him fifteen years to have all the city officials to agree to his plan. He designed the bridge himself and he dreamt of it for many years before that. He thought that having a bridge would make life easier for everyone.

Back then the people had to brave the cold weather during the winter because they had to go to work. Some people even used their skates to cross the river which was also dangerous for them. John Roebling even got the idea of constructing the bridge because when he took a boat ride in 1852. It was a cold winter day and the boat hit an ice chunk. The east river also has a strong current at most times. The smaller boats are at risk if they sail through the river.
3. The third answer to the question, why did they build the Brooklyn Bridge is because the people wanted to have a safe way to travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan and vice versa. During winters the East river usually gets frozen. Most boats ended up getting stuck in the icy water. Most of the time during the winter season people had no choice but to stay at home than to brave the cold water.

The fourth answer to the question, why did they build the Brooklyn Bridge is because Mr. Roebling proposed that if they wanted the cities of New York and Brooklyn to grow more, constructing a bridge would be necessary. It made the travel of the workers and businessmen faster without delaying their routine because of a troublesome weather. The city officials agreed on this concern raised by Mr. Roebling and they signed the documents that allowed the construction of Brooklyn bridge.
