Renewable energy developer Cornwall Power yesterday confirmed it has gained planning permission from Cornwall Council for the 5MW Lanhydrock solar farm, which is expected to be producing electricity for the neighbouring water treatment works by autumn this year.
Cornwall council has granted renewable energy firm Cornwall Power permission to proceed with construction work on the £14 million, 5MW facility on a 27-acre site near Lostwithiel. Cornwall Council said last year that it was keen to deliver a solar gold rush in the region, revealing that it expects to receive up to 100 planning applications from developers to build solar farms, each with a potential £10m investment.
As many as 100 jobs in construction will be created through this development, which is scheduled to start in spring and reach completion by autumn, with Cornwall Power chairman David Fyffe vowing to use local subcontractors for the project. He told thisiscornwall.co.uk: "I think solar farms will, over the next two or three years, provide the basis for a new industry, providing investment is made."
Back in October, Cornwall council also gave new company 35 Degrees permission to undertake construction work on a £3.5 million solar farm near Truro, with the firm planning to deliver another 20-to-25 such facilities over the next five years.
