Young children are also knowledgeable in using different internet application for searching and entertainment just by staying at home. Yes, it is true that the internet provides fast communication and a wide range of information sources, but this could also be a source of grave problems. If children have an unlimited access to it without proper supervision, they may enter sources that could harm and exploit them. These sources include images and movies having sexually-explicit and violent topics.

Actually, if you use windows XP at home, you can activate its feature to control internet use. Unluckily, this application cannot fully protect users because of its incomplete features.

All you need to do is to click on the Control Panel in your computer and enter the Internet Options icon. If you have opened it, Internet properties menu will appear and search for the Content button and click it. Then, click the Enable button which provides you a list of topics like alcoholism, nudity, etc. Click one subject to be disallowed by the system then move the bar below your screen to the right. Click OK to allow restraint to the specific subject you choose.

Do this repeatedly on other topics you want to be restricted. You will be required to set a password to ensure that the set up you made will not be altered. After all these, the controls are now set and ready to filter internet contents.

By setting this up, content filtering is now set to function. Unfortunately, this cannot monitor every action the user does in the internet. This will not provide reports on the sites and other dealings your child does while you are away. You cannot access the message contents and the files received which might contain unsuitable materials.

Having the windows xp parental controls set up in your computer can already provide safety for you and your family. But if you want a more complete and better software, you can get them anytime online which are more efficient in controlling internet use.
